Bring Joy to Your World: Stress Relief for the Holidays

The holidays are filled with all sorts of excitement – it’s often a time we get to spend time with family, eat delicious food and feel thankful for all of the blessings in our life. But, as we all know, the holidays can also be stressful.

For couples that are in the process of trying to conceive, it’s especially important to relieve some of the pressure of this busy time of year. At Dallas Fort Worth Fertility Associates, we want the holidays to be an opportunity for our patients to appreciate the blessings they have in their life, and continue positive steps towards their baby dreams.

Just say no! Take a look at your agenda – if the flurry of activity gives you heartburn, it’s time to rethink your social calendar. Choose the events and gatherings that are truly meaningful to you, and send your regrets for the others.

Keep up your healthy habits. The holidays are a good excuse for indulgence, but don’t let your health suffer. Maintain your normal exercise routine as much as possible. This is not only good to burn off the extra pie calories, but it’s an excellent way to get some alone time and recharge your batteries. Getting good sleep and avoiding too much alcohol are also important ways to keep a healthy balance.

Take a break. Sometimes the holidays can feel like a relay race, but there’s always time for a short pause. During these mini-breaks you can read a chapter of a good book in a quiet room, do a five-minute meditation exercise, or watch your favorite video on YouTube and dance along.

Have fun. Take some time to think about the holiday traditions that you enjoy the most and make sure that you have enough time and energy to appreciate them. The holidays are about giving to others, but also about getting in touch with the things that make us happy.

Make mini-resolutions. Researchers have discovered that the more drastic a New Year’s resolution is, the less likely it is to be followed. So, think of small steps you can take and commit to them in the New Year. Add an extra 30-minute walk to your week, replace soda with water for meals after 5 pm, or move your printer to the other side of the room from your desk to get your blood flowing during long computer sessions. Be creative!

At Dallas – Fort Worth Fertility Associates, we’re here to support your fertility journey, no matter what time of year. Please contact us for a consultation if you’d like to discuss the best schedule for your fertility treatment plan during the holidays.
